Moving into the Residence Halls

Checking Into Campus

Students who are moving to campus will receive an email with a specific move in day and time. Rental trucks or trailers WILL NOT be allowed in the residence hall area.

Spring 2012 Move In Day:
On or after Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 1pm in your building's hall office.

Please be sure to review the Spring 2012 move-in brochure!

NOTE: If you arrive to check-in after normal business hours, please contact Public Safety who will page a Resident Advisor to help you.

Things to Bring

Even in the most ideal living situations, on-campus living can still make for a crowded situation. Think about what you will really need when you get here, and don't bring anything else!  It is also recommended that once you receive your roommate’s name and contact information, you communicate with them to prevent duplicate items from taking up unnecessary space in the room.

Please use the guide below to help in determining which items to bring to campus. Should you have any questions regarding a specific item, please contact us.

THINGS TO BRING

  • Linens: twin extra-long bedding (some beds will not need extra long bedding, but it will fit all bed sizes offered in the residence halls), towels, pillows
  • Cleaning supplies: for bedrooms and bathrooms
  • Laundry supplies (please no powdered laundry soap; our machines operate on a card system, so no need for quarters!)
  • Electronics: television, computer, stereo
  • Surge protectors/power strips (extension cords and multi-plugs are prohibited)
  • Miscellaneous: microfridge, reusable adhesive putty for hanging posters on the walls, alarm clock, first aid kit

DO NOT BRING

  • Halogen lamps, decorative/holiday lights
  • All appliances except hotpots, coffee pots, blenders, and mini-refrigerators up to 4.0 cubic feet (NO MICROWAVES unless part of a combination microwave/refrigerator unit)
  • Candles, incense, extension cords, or multi-plugs
  • Tape, pushpins, or nails for walls
  • Pets/animals other than fish (maximum of 10-gallon tank size)
  • All weapons, INCLUDING replicas, cap guns, water guns, knives with blades longer than 3 inches, martial arts weaponry, etc.

Living On Campus

All residents should have electronically “signed” the Residence Living License Agreement (RLLA) on the Chapman University Housing Portal. The RLLA is the binding agreement between you and the university from the date you check-in through the end of the academic year. It is, essentially, your lease. Please be sure to review this document carefully and to sign it prior to your move-in. If you have any questions regarding the terms of the RLLA, please feel free to contact us.
