Rape, Sexual Assault and Abuse

What Do I Do If I Am Sexually Assaulted?

Sexual assault is never the survivor's fault
We can help you, along with the additional resources found on the Contact Us page.
  • Get to a safe place.
  • Seek medical attention.
  • Obtain emotional support or counseling.
  • Learn about your options (see Student Conduct Code, see Appendix 10, or use the Anonymous Report Form).

If you're unsure about filing a police report, seriously consider having a rape kit done at Santa Monica Rape Treatment Center. This exam gathers evidence if you choose to file a police report later. Get assistance as soon as possible after the assault. Call the Center for information and before going. If you DO choose to file a police report, contact the police as soon as possible in the city where the crime took place. If the assault occurred within the past 3 days, and you are filing a police report in Orange County, law enforcement will take you to the hospital for a rape kit. Try not to shower or bathe until after the exam. Seek help. You do have options.
Most rapists have 8-12 victims before one of them files a police report. You probably aren't the first or only victim.
