Now Hiring for Student and Campus Life

The Department of Student & Campus Life Student Staff is a group of current Chapman University students who work to serve the entire campus community by coordinating and implementing campus-wide programs and events.

The staff is committed to personal, professional, staff, and campus development. In order to cause the greatest impact on Chapman's campus and in students' lives, we must first be willing to explore, learn, and grow as individuals.

Applications must be completed through OrgSync and are due no later than Friday, February 24th by noon.


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to work in a leadership position
  • Be professional, detail oriented, organized, and follow through
  • Represent Chapman University and the Department of Student & Campus Life well
  • Work well with others on a team
  • Desire ongoing personal and professional development
  • Desire to be challenged and to learn
  • Remain in good academic (cumulative GPA 2.5) and disciplinary standing
  • Maintain full-time student status (enrolled in at least 12 units)
  • Comply with Chapman’s policy of student employment by working no more than 19 hrs/week for all on-campus jobs

Time Commitment

  • Work 12-15 hours/week in the Department of Student & Campus Life
  • Attend department staff development meetings on Fridays 2:00pm - 4:00pm for one week every month
  • Participate in assigned Chapman events

Administrative Assistant (1 - Work Study Required) *Employment begins July 2012
Maintain office operations for Student & Campus Life including ordering office supplies, checking voicemail, copy, file, and database entry. Assist the Department Assistant with the vending and discounted ticket program as well as other duties as assigned. Manage checking out office equipment and coordinate office organization. Responsible for marketing the Department of Student & Campus Life through various channels in an effort to increase awareness of programs and resources. Successful candidate will have previous administrative and supervisory experience with strong communication and customer service skills.

Diversity & Equity Program Assistant (3) * Employment begins August 2012
Develop and coordinate diversity, equity and social justice programs for the campus community focused on raising awareness and creating an inclusive environment. Assist with the direction of groups and programs such as the Social Justice Council, Safe Space Program, Next Step Retreat, Ubuntu Dialogue Program, Diversity Trainers Program, and additional collaborative programs. Provide support, administrative services, and develop leadership skills. Work with community organizations and members to build a more aware and inclusive community. Responsible for marketing Diversity & Equity Initiatives & resources as well as the Department of Student & Campus Life through various channels in an effort to increase awareness of programs. Some relevant coursework or equivalent experience with diversity, equity, inclusion, cross-cultural dialogue, multiculturalism and social justice is required.

Graphic Design Assistant (3) * Employment for two positions begins June 2012
Coordinate all design requests for Student & Campus Life including flyers, posters, logos, brochures, bulletin boards and publications for events and marketing. Responsible for marketing the Department of Student & Campus Life through various channels in an effort to increase awareness of programs and resources. Assist with the conceptualization and implementation of design requests. Successful candidates will have proficient knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, & Photoshop as well as strong artistic and creative ability, communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates should also be able to multi-task, balance varying volumes of work log assignments, and adapt to the changing needs of the department; previous work in a Graphic Design position and/or coursework in graphic design is required. Submit sample portfolio with application.  Internship credit is available for this position if student is taking relevant course work.

Student Civic Engagement Assistant (4) *Employment begins July 2012
SCE staff coordinate programs and services to support campus-community partnerships and the development of student civic engagement, while serving as department liaisons and representatives to community agencies, campus departments, and student organizations.  Programs include the Alternative Break program, the Chapman Day of Service, Circle of Citizenship, leadership academies, and other special projects and programs.  Staff will also be responsible for marketing Student Civic Engagement programs & resources, as well as the Department of Student & Campus Life, through various channels in an effort to increase awareness of programs. Candidates with training and/or experience in one or more of the following are preferred: leadership development, community involvement, knowledge of local agencies, current social issues, and trends pertaining to sustainability. Candidates should have: the ability to develop strong relationships with campus and community representatives, a high attention to detail and strong program/event planning experience, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work evening and weekend hours as necessitated by programming.

Public Relations Assistant (1) * Employment begins July 2012
Responsible for marketing the Department of Student & Campus Life through various channels in an effort to increase awareness of programs and resources. Organize all work requests and maintain all calendars for Student & Campus Life marketing resources. Assess image and awareness of the Student & Campus Life and services on campus. Plan and execute marketing and PR initiatives for the year. Successful candidate will have strong initiative, significant knowledge of the University and the Student & Campus Life, as well as exceptional organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Previous work in a PR position, coursework in marketing or PR, artistic and/or creative ability is preferred.

Student Organization Assistant (4) * Employment begins August 2012
Assist the 70+ registered student organizations with event planning, budget management, and online club communication and registration.  During open office hours, serve as a consultant to student organization leaders for drop-in or scheduled appointments. Facilitate new student organization and advisor trainings.  Coordinate one or more of the following student organization projects: online resource library, organization matching system, club events calendar, or SCL Student Organization website development.  Responsible for marketing student organizations & resources as well as the Department of Student & Campus Life through various channels in an effort to increase awareness of programs. Successful candidate will have significant event planning experience, some public speaking experience, significant knowledge of the University, and exceptional organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. 

Student Union Assistant (4) * Employment begins July 2012
Work with the Student Union Program Coordinator to manage the operations of the Argyros Forum Student Union. Supervise the Student Union Information Desk staff including training and development. Coordinate marketing for Union programs, services, and resources. Coordinate traditional Union events such as Open Mic Night and Opening Day Celebration. Initiate new programs and services based on student feedback. Coordinate the calendar of Union programs and events with the University Program Board, student organizations, and other campus departments.  Assist with the development and implementation of new policies and procedures. Responsible for marketing the Student Union as well as the Department of Student & Campus Life through various channels in an effort to increase awareness of programs. Successful candidate will have exceptional organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, strong knowledge of the University, event planning experience, and ability to work weekend and evening hours.

Website Design & Technology Assistant (1) * Employment begins August 2012
Creatively develop and maintain updates to the Student & Campus Life website. Work with the Public Relations Assistant to create weekly student events emails for the entire campus.  Consult on all office technology upgrades, including assessing technological needs of Student & Campus Life and researching purchases of new technology. Responsible for marketing the Department of Student & Campus Life through various channels in an effort to increase awareness of programs and resources. Serve as a liaison to various campus entities with relation to the computers and technology. Successful candidate will have excellent skills for IBM/Mac platforms, proficient knowledge of the internet, web design, graphic design, and MS Office Programs, also the ability to multi-task, and assess and adapt to the changing needs of the Department of Student & Campus Life. Previous experience with HTML, JavaScript, CSS and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred. Submit sample portfolio with application.
