Working While Abroad
Basic Costs
While abroad, students remain enrolled at Chapman University and pay their regular Chapman tuition, room and in some cases board. Chapman health insurance may be retained or waived while studying abroad. Other expenses students are responsible to pay for include:
- Passport
- Visa
- Some countries require student visas to enter the country. Information about obtaining a visa will be provided after acceptance by the host program.
- Airfare to host country
- Some programs include one-way or round-trip airfare
- Supplies
- Students will be responsible for all books and personal school supplies, including lab or studio fees.
- Personal expenses
- Things such as transportation in the host country, entertainment, and vacation expenses. Some programs include organized excursions for no additional fee
Financial Aid & Scholarships
Depending on the program, students can utilize federal, state and institutional aid to study abroad. Work-Study, tuition exchange and tuition discount do not apply to study abroad. You also may apply for additional study abroad scholarships. Click here for more information.
Partner & Exchange Programs
Partner and Exchange Programs allow Chapman students to utilize all of their financial aid package, including federal, state, and insitutional funding (with the exception of work/study, tuition exchange, and tuition discount funds.) A $500 student abroad fee applies. Fee waived for Fall applicants only.
Affiliate Programs
Affiliate Programs allow students to apply federal and state financial aid to the programs and continue to pay their regular Chapman University comprehensive fee. A $500 study abroad fee applies. Fee waived for Fall applicants only!

Working While Abroad
Students are not encouraged to work while studying abroad and some visa restrictions strictly prohibit working while abroad. Some programs offer non-paying internships as part or all of the study abroad experience. For details, see internship opportunities.
