Dear Chapman Friends:
Welcome to Chapman University! Please explore and enjoy your visit to our Web site. Here, you can meet our students and faculty, learn about our many programs of study and become more familiar with our beautiful campus in the heart of Old Towne Orange. Chapman University is in the midst of an extraordinary era of expansion. In the past year alone we’ve added the trend-setting Marion Knott Studios, our new state-of-the-art film school facility and home to the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. We’ve also completed Phase I of the exciting new Erin J. Lastinger Athletics Complex, which features Wilson Field, a wonderful multi-use athletic field used for football, soccer, lacrosse, and track and field events. Phase II of the athletics complex is in progress. By 2008, the doors will open to the Zee Allred Aquatics Center with an Olympic swimming pool and the dramatically transformed Ernie Chapman Stadium. Phase II plans for a total renovation of our 60-year-old stadium that will overlook both the field and pool, and will include modern locker rooms, team offices, sports classrooms, press boxes and a multimedia booth. Although these capital projects are all very exciting, please know that our goal as an institution is to remain focused on growing better, and not necessarily bigger. We strive to find opportunities that will expand not only the borders of our campus but also the borders of our minds. At Chapman University, we focus on educating the whole person. That includes what we consider the four pillars of a Chapman education: the intellectual, social, physical and spiritual dimensions of life. Chapman’s mission is to offer a personalized education of distinction that leads to inquiring, ethical and productive lives as global citizens. In serving that mission, we strive to ensure that every Chapman student’s experience will be one that is enlightening, challenging and involving. I’m pleased to note that the entire Chapman community—made up of our alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, trustees, neighbors and friends—has been engaged in creating a vision that will lead to an exciting future. Our vision and plan will further define the university as an educational institution of national prominence. I like to think of Chapman as a university that never quite arrives at a place but is always arriving. At the same time, Chapman will always remain passionately committed to our core values—developing the whole person and engendering a lifelong passion for learning. These values are the heart of our institution and inherent in each and every member of our ever-expanding Chapman family. Regards,
