Important Info for Parents

Parent Volunteers Needed for Summer Events
Even though most students are home for the summer, the Chapman Parents Council continues to be busy preparing for the new academic year.  Parents across the country can assist in a variety of ways.  Consider hosting a reception in your home; specific areas of need include Orange, San Diego and Santa Barbara Counties.  We also invite you to assist with check-in at receptions or by making follow up phone calls in your home city to help welcome our new students and their families.  If you are close to campus, you may want to assist with preparing welcome mailings or be on campus for new student move-in day and orientation.  We appreciate any assistance you would like to provide on behalf of the Chapman Parents Council. Resident Student Check-Out Information
Resident students must check out 24 hours after their last final or by 5pm on Friday, May 16, whichever comes first. If your student has a final on Friday, they can request for a Saturday, May 17 check-out time. Graduating students must vacate by 12 noon on Monday, May 19. All students must go through a check-out process. Express check-out is an option, however this eliminates the opportunity to contest damages. If you plan to help your student during move-out, please refrain from bringing pets and/or small children. Learn More

Summer Storage Options
Plan ahead for summer storage needs. To make storage more affordable, consider sharing a storage space with friends and split the cost. Most facilities even offer specials and discounts to Chapman students. View a list of local storage facilities.

American Celebration Opportunity Drawing Items Needed
American Celebration is Chapman’s largest scholarship fundraising event. It takes place November 7 & 8 and includes an opportunity raffle on Opening Night and a silent auction on Gala Night. You can help contribute to funding scholarships by donating items for these events. Consider dining gift cards, time-share weeks, sports and entertainment tickets; we can use them all and anything in between. If you would like to donate an item for the benefit of Chapman student scholarships, please contact Paula McCance at 714-628-7290 or Gemma Wolf at 714-714-745-3863.

In the Life of Your Student
Sense of urgency about plans for roommates, living arrangements for next year; panic may arise over not finding a roommate or apartment. Stress about registering for summer classes, fall classes. For sophomores, especially, concern heightens about selecting a major. Intense anxiety over grades, final exams; for freshmen, the excuse of “first semester” is gone, and they feel grades must be better than fall. For seniors, either separation anxiety begins to arise or there’s a feeling that “I can’t wait to be done!” Some seniors will start to disengage from friends; most want to cement their college relationships and find more time to spend with friends.

A Walk through Chapman History
The Depression left Chapman College financially insolvent and World War II devastated its student body, leaving only 80 part-time students by the spring of 1942. In an effort to turn things around, the Board dismissed the college’s faculty and appointed alumnus George Reeves '27 as president of Chapman. President Reeves immediately moved Chapman’s classes from it's Los Angeles campus to facilities at Whittier College for the next three years while Chapman earned income to help pay off the college's debts by renting its campus to the U.S. Navy.
