Summer Travel Courses Offered
It’s known that studying abroad widens your cultural horizons and deepens your understanding - not just of the world, but of yourself. However, some students may want the opportunity to study in several different locations or may not be able to take an entire semester off to study abroad. Therefore, the summer provides Chapman students with a great opportunity for travel to destinations on several continents. The Center for Global Education is offering a variety of summer travel courses that are taking place in exciting locations such as London, Paris, and Ecuador to name just a few. These courses range from 2 to 6 weeks in length and provide from 3 to 6 academic credits. Students shouldn’t hesitate to take advantage of these opportunities as space is limited and the courses will fill up fast. Learn More

Interfaith Center Wins 1st Place in NYC Design Awards
Chapman’s new Merle & Marjorie Fish Interfaith Center took top honors in Interior Design Magazine’s “Best of Year” Awards, winning first place in the Institutions category against strong competition. The ceremony was held in New York’s famous Guggenheim Museum and David Martin, principle architect for AC Martin Partners, Inc. which designed the building, was at the ceremony and was presented with the award, a custom cast polyester-resin light bulb, at December’s award ceremony. “The competing projects were some of the best in the country. This is an honor for all of us,” he said, adding that the support of the campus community, the building committee and the entire team was an important part of the building’s success.

CU Celebrates Launch of Sodaro-Pankey Undergraduate School of Media Arts
A festive crowd gathered in Marion Knott Studios on February 7, to celebrate the official dedication of the Sodaro-Pankey Undergraduate School of Media Arts. The school was named to honor the generosity of Don Sodaro, chairman of the Chapman Board of Trustees, his wife DeeDee and their good friend Libby Pankey, widow of longtime Chapman supporter Ed Pankey. The event also marked the establishment of a new endowed chair, the Pankey Chair in Media Arts. “The naming of this school means that, in perpetuity, we will be associated with the values of these two families, their vision and their faith in change as a positive force,” said Dodge College Dean Bob Bassett. The school encompasses undergraduate film studies, film production, TV and broadcast journalism, screenwriting and PR/Advertising. Learn More (PDF)

Leatherby Libraries Overview 2004-2006
After years of planning, fund raising, and an aggressive 66-week construction schedule the Leatherby Libraries at Chapman University opened on the first day of the 2004-2005 academic year. Since that notable debut we have witnessed the library’s emergence as a focal point for campus intellectual and cultural activities. This sixteen-page overview includes cameos of the nine Leatherby Libraries, statistics and staff bios among other interesting stories. Learn More (PDF)

Student Spotlight: Ryan Corry ‘08
Among a small group of outstanding American students who toured Israel last month – meeting with Israeli government officials, Palestinian representatives, working journalists and others – was Chapman student Ryan Corry '08. He was one of only 10-12 students selected from around the country to participate in the Anti-Defamation League’s "Current and Future Leaders Study Mission to Israel" January 4-10. “It is our hope that these active, intelligent and informed student leaders will come away from this experience with a new insight on Israel and the region and a deeper understanding of the dynamics that have engaged and divided the Israeli and Palestinian people for so long,” said Abraham H. Foxman, director of the Anti-Defamation League. Learn More

Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Marilyn Harran
Dr. Marilyn Harran, professor of religious studies and history, was featured in the Dec. 29 issue of The Jewish Journal, where she was included in the journal’s second annual List of Top Ten L.A. Mensches, even though she herself is not Jewish. “A mensch is a person who is upright, honorable, decent,” the journal says, “a person to admire and emulate.” This year the category of “Honorary Mensch” was added to honor non-Jews, and Harran was recognized as a “modern righteous gentile” for her work with the Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education. Alumni Spotlight: Keith Pham EMBA ‘05
Technology Development Center, Inc., founded by Keith Pham (EMBA ‘2005) was recently named as one of the "Top 500 small businesses in the United States (Div500)" by DiversityBusiness.com, the nation’s leading multicultural internet site. The Div500 is the 7th annual listing of the Nation's top 500 small businesses. Ranging in revenue size from $11,000,000 to over $2,600,000,000, the companies listed on the Div500 represent the Nation's top multicultural earners and challenge the long-held notion that a diversity-owned business is small or insignificant.
