From beginning her career working in both the advertising and editorial departments at a San Diego magazine company to marking the 20th anniversary of Hahn Communications, Donna Hahn brings a variety of public relations experiences and expertise to the classroom. With a background in both in-house and agency work, Hahn has managed a plethora of clients and high-profile accounts ranging from the San Diego Padres to the U.S. Grant Hotel and Kraft Foods. For the past 20 years, she has thoroughly enjoyed her work as Media Relations Director for the Kraft Nabisco Championship LPGA major golf tournament in Rancho Mirage, Calif. “We work with hundreds of sports media from around the world to promote one of the world’s premier sporting events.” Hahn is also an expert in senior marketing and public relations.
Of her role as professor, Hahn says, “I truly enjoy the interaction with students and love sharing the concepts, ethics and fun of public relations with them. The students never fail to surprise me with their insights into the many public relations challenges and opportunities we see playing out every day around us.”
When it comes to developing a career in public relations, she advises students to get as much experience as possible through internships, writing for the school paper, or volunteering with non-profits that need the extra support. She also notes the importance of new technology, Web and social media skills as they are playing an increasingly important role in the PR profession.
