My Chapman Story: This will be my 6th year at Chapman University. I am honored to be a part of such an exemplary orientation program. Previously I was the Director of Student Activities at a small college in the Midwest. Prior to that, I did my graduate work in Higher Postsecondary Education at Syracuse University in New York. I feel very much at home on a college campus and am proud to call Chapman University my home.
Favorite Thing about Orientation: It is hard to capture another transition in one’s life that encompasses more energy, excitement, anxiety, tears, strength, and personal determination. It is never easy to step out of your comfort zone and go out on a limb; to meet new people, live in a new place, attend new classes, and discover a new sense of independence. My favorite part of orientation is the depth of support and positive energy. The excitement is contagious across campus.
Advice to Chapman students: Be yourself. It's easy to feel like you should be someone else in order to “fit in.” Chapman University is unique because every student here brings his or her own experiences, passions, and future aspirations. Secondly, keep an open mind to new people and new ideas. You never know who you are going to meet or what you are going to learn. Lastly, take a risk. Making new friends and joining new groups can be scary and intimidating. Put yourself out there and you will find your experience here to be that much more fulfilling and rewarding.
