Laura Lascoe BM Instrumental Performance - Clarinet Laura Lascoe began her musical career in elementary school on the Flutaphone. The experience of playing an instrument interested her. In middle school she decided to enroll in beginning band on the clarinet, since this instrument resembled the Flutaphone. From sixth grade on her musical career flourished. She started saxophone in the seventh grade, piano in tenth grade, and upright bass in eleventh. Laura graduated Calabasas High School with the John Philip Sousa Award. Although she has training on different instruments she is now focusing on the clarinet family. Laura loves to integrate both of her areas of study: Holocaust History and Music Performance. Along with Katie Kroko and Miwa Sugiyama, Laura has played at various Holocaust commemorations and performed pieces by composers whose music is influenced by the Holocaust. Last year at the Concerto Competition Laura and Katie played a double concerto for clarinet and viola by Bruch and received honorable mention. Laura, Katie, and Miwa have played together for three semesters and through their practices, coaching, and performances have found a passion for playing together. The opportunity to play with them is amazing and she hopes to continue her career in music as a chamber musician. During her one and a half years at Chapman University, Laura has been a member of the Wind Symphony, Chamber Orchestra, Opera production, New Music Ensemble, Woodwind Quintet, Clarinet Quartet, Woodwind duets and trios, the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as her trio of piano, clarinet, and viola with Miwa and Katie. Major teachers and mentors have included Steve Carr, Gary Gray, David Howard, and Lea Steffens. All four of these teachers have guided her in becoming the musician she is today. Her enthusiasm to play and perform will continue into the future. After graduation Laura wishes to continue her education in Clarinet Performance in Israel at the Reuben Academy in Tel Aviv. |
