Justin Miller '08

Justin is a native Southern Californian, but was raised in Westport, CT.  He returned to Southern California after High School, and soon began his studies at Chapman University.  While at Chapman, Justin earned degrees in Music Education and Conducting and was fortunate enough to conduct the Chapman University Choir and University Singers in concert.  Justin won awards for his accomplishments in conducting and his contributions to the choral department of the Conservatory of Music.

In 2008, Justin assumed the role of Musical Director of the Westminster Chorus, an award-winning young men’s choral ensemble in Orange County, Ca.  The Westminster Chorus started out as an outlet for young men to sing and enjoy Barbershop Harmony and they were the 2007 International Chorus Champions of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  Under Justin’s direction, Westminster Chorus has grown into an ensemble with a diverse repertoire while keeping its Barbershop roots.

At the 2009 International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales, the Westminster Chorus blew the audience away with their musical artistry and unique sound, which can be described as a hybrid of choral and barbershop styles.  The Westminster Chorus won the Barbershop and Folk categories, and was also named Choir of the World at this prestigious festival, besting choirs from major American universities as well as accomplished European choirs.  Perhaps even more impressive than the result of the contest were the comments from adjudicators.  One especially eloquent comment described Westminster as “musical butter – soft, inviting, and delicious.”

Justin is very active with the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS).  He serves as assistant director to the Masters of Harmony, another accomplished group from Southern California.  He has served on the faculty of the BHS Harmony University, is a Music Judge Candidate, and is a sought after coach.

Led by Justin Miller, The Westminster Chorus was named "Choir of the World" at the 2009 International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales.
