Daphne Juliette Medina

BM Instrumental Performance - Violin
BM Music Education
Class of 2010

Daphne Medina began her pursuit of music when she first took piano lessons at the age of four. As she studied with various pianists from around the world, she was selected as a winner in the MTAC to perform in various recitals and state conventions for eight consecutive years. She won the 2003 Contemporary Works Festival, the 2003 Ensemble Festival both as a soloist and accompanist, the 2004 Bach Festival at Branch, Regionals, and State levels, and the CAPMT Piano Auditions in 2005. She was chosen as a certified winner of the National Guild Auditions for seven years and earned the National Piano Guild Highschool Diploma her senior year.

At the age of twelve, Daphne fell in love with the violin and joined the studio of Joanne Ausmus-Baker. She performed with student ensembles throughout California, including the Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings, the Orange County Youth Symphony, the Chamber Music Institute of Southern California, and was the co-leader of the Young Musicians' Ensemble.  She competed at state levels throughout her high school years and was selected as a winner in the VOCE competition in 2006. From 2004-2006, she studied her third musical interest: cello, with Dr. Charles Baker. As she graduated from high school with several scholarships from various music associations in California, she was also recognized by the city of Yorba Linda for accumulating over 900 hours in community service.

She currently continues her violin studies with Paul Manaster, performs with the Chapman Chamber Orchestra and New Music Ensemble, and freelances throughout Southern California. She pursues her love of giving to the community as a Music Education student and string coach for the Prelude Strings Youth Orchestras. In the future, she plans to continue her education with Masters' and Doctorate degrees in music as an educator and performer.
