Community Partnership Series: A Focus on Epilepsy

The Community Partnership Series: A Focus on Epilepsy is comprised of a series of events coordinated by Chapman University’s Office of Service-Learning and Department of Dance. The primary events of the series include a panel discussion and follow-up service experiences intended to educate our community on the impact of epilepsy on individuals, families, and communities. The panel discussion consists of community representatives discussing the topic of epilepsy as well as ways in which the campus community can engage in important work that supports individuals and families impacted by epilepsy.

Panel Discussion and Essay Readings: Wednesday, November 5 @ 4:00pm in Beckman Hall 404

Service Experience: Friday, November 14th from 6:00-9:00pm

Essay Contest (The deadline for the Essay Contest has passed):
The Community Partnership Series: A Focus on Epilepsy Essay Contest is designed to foster udnerstandign of and reflection on the impact of epilepsy on individuals, families, and our shared community.  Students are encouraged to write thought-provoking personal essays that raise questions, advance dialogue, and/or challenge assumptions about epilepsy through sharing their own personal experience: how they, or someone they know, are impacted by epilepsy.


Articles & Resources on Epilepsy:
Miracle Against Epilepsy - This article, published in Woman's World, highlights the story of a Chapman University Dance Instructor and her daughter's journey with epilepsy.
Planning Ahead - This article includes the basics of epilepsy and seizures and discusses the implications of epilepsy within a school environment.
Epilepsy.com - This website provides a great amount of general information about epilepsy, its diagnosis and treatment, as well as information and resources on living with epilepsy.
Epilepsy Alliance of Orange County - The mission of the Epilepsy Alliance of Orange County is to improve the lives of those affected by epilepsy in Orange County through education, support and advocacy.  It is the only community-based organization in Orange County specifically addressing the needs of patients affected by epilepsy and their families.
Epilepsy Foundation - The Epilepsy Foundation of America works to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences; to improve how people with epilepsy are perceived, accepted and valued in socieyt; and to promote research for a cure.
