The South Asian Law Student Association (SALSA) is a new student group that was formed to serve the unique needs of South Asian students engaged in legal education with the goal to promote an understanding and appreciation of South Asian political, legal, and social issues. We will try to increase the diversity of Chapman University School of Law by optimizing awareness of the legal issues that affect the South Asian community. Additionally, South Asians are now joining the legal profession in increasing numbers instead of traditional careers such as engineering and medicine. Thus, SALSA hopes to provide a forum for career networking for South Asian law students and offer outreach to the South Asian community of Orange County and Greater Los Angeles and foster our relationship with the South Asian Bar Association of Southern California. Furthermore, SALSA will provide support to the North American South Asian Law Student Association's (NASALSA) Annual Conference which will be held in Miami, FL in February 2009, where South Asian law students, attorneys, judges will be attending from across the country.
