ENLURE Certificate Requirements

To earn the Certificate in Environmental, Land Use, and Real Estate Law, a student must take at least four electives in the ENLURE curriculum, earn a 2.5 overall cumulative GPA, and earn 2.8 cumulative GPA in the ENLURE electives.  (For students matriculating before fall 2006, the ENLURE elective cumulative GPA minimum is 2.7).  At least two electives must be from the three core courses in the ENLURE program: Environmental Law, Land Use Regulation, and Real Estate Transactions & Finance.  At least one of the electives must be a “capstone” course, which is an advanced course integrating multiple perspectives on specialized topics.  In general, advanced electives give particular attention to insights from the “real world” of case studies and empirical inquiry, as well as pragmatic problem-solving methods, interdisciplinary perspectives, and the interplay between legal doctrine and policy issues.  These requirements and the courses below are subject to change.

Certain externships and directed research projects, both for credit, can be counted towards the Certificate. Many students take advantage of externships and directed research papers to develop further specialization in particular areas of interest. Approved externship placements relevant to the ENLURE Program include the Attorney General of California - Environmental, Land Use and Natural Resources divisions, Building Industry Legal Defense Foundation, Communities for a Better Environment, County Counsel's Office (Orange and Riverside), several city attorneys' offices (Los Angeles, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Santa Ana), Orange County District Attorney's Office-Environmental Protection Unit, Fair Housing Council, Federal Aviation Administration, Heal the Bay, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Public Law Center, and South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Summary of Requirements

• At least 4 ENLURE electives, including Core Electives and Capstone Electives
• At least 2 Core Electives (see Core Elective box below)
• At least 1 Capstone Elective
• A minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA in all ENLURE electives (including those that exceed the minimum of 4) at the time of graduation; a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA requirement is required for students matriculating before fall 2006.
• A minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA overall (all courses) at the time of graduation
