Entertainment Law Emphasis Program

Chapman University School of Law is proud to offer an Entertainment Law Emphasis Program—the first and only program of its kind in the United States. Students who complete the Entertainment Law Emphasis Program requirements will receive a formal Certificate and transcript notation.

The Entertainment Law Emphasis Program offers law students the opportunity to take advantage of the Law School’s proximity to Hollywood and the Southern California business market. The Entertainment Law Emphasis Program also complements Chapman University’s commitment to training its students to compete in the entertainment industry. Law Students who participate in the Entertainment Law Emphasis Program may take as many as six credits from the MFA program at the Chapman’s noted Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. The entertainment law offerings are open to Dodge students and the curriculum will include classes taught jointly by professors from the School of Law and Dodge College.

Certificate and Curriculum

Successful completion of the Entertainment Law Emphasis Program requires the law student to earn a minimum 2.6 overall cumulative GPA and a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA in the Entertainment Law Emphasis Program courses. The law student must complete two core courses—Entertainment and Media Law and Intellectual Property Law—as well as eight additional credit hours of offerings in the program (up to six credit hours of which may include clinical/drafting courses) and an entertainment law-related writing requirement.
