Visiting Professor Betsy Levin Launches Unique Lunchtime Lecture Series on Education Law for Chapman Law School FacultyDistinguished Visiting Professor of Law Betsy Levin has kicked off her unique lunchtime guest lecture series for the law school's faculty. The complete schedule of faculty symposia in Education Law is as follows: Friday, March 23: Laura Rothstein - impact of school choice on children with disabilities (with comments by Betsy Levin on the impact on racial and ethnic minorities). Thursday, March 29: Rachel Moran - Lau v. Nichols history and litigation strategies, and issues involving language minority children. Tuesday, April 3: Goodwin Liu - Seattle-Louisville case, and diversity in elementary and secondary education. Thursday, April 12: Ronna Schneider - issues involving religion and the schools. All of symposia will include a buffet lunch and run from 11:30am to 1:00pm, with the exception of Professor Laura Rothstein’s symposium on Friday, March 23rd, which will run from 10:30 to noon, with coffee, juice and buns, etc. Professor Levin has had an extraordinarily distinguished career. She is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and received her law degree from Yale, where she was a member of the Yale Law Journal. Thereafter, she clerked for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and then served for a year as Special Assistant to Justice Arthur Goldberg in his capacity as Ambassador to the United Nations. From 1973 to 1981, she was Professor of Law at Duke University School of Law. In addition, from 1980 to 1981, she was General Counsel to the U.S. Department of Education. She also served with distinction from 1981 to 1987 as Dean of the University of Colorado School of Law. From 1987 to 1992, she was the Executive Director of the Association of American Law Schools. She has also been a Visiting Professor at a variety of law schools, including New York University, the University of Southern California, the University of North Carolina, Georgetown University and Nova Southeastern University. Dean Levin is an expert in Education Law and Constitutional Law. She has authored numerous important books, including a leading casebook on Education Law. |
