Law school is different from any other experience, and getting ready for it can be overwhelming. So we've prepared a little "To Do" list to help you begin law school. The first day of class will be here before you know it!

Turn in your seat deposit. Turn in your second and final seat deposit of $250 to ensure your place in the 2009 Entering Class. Your seat deposit is due at the School of Law by the deadline stated in your admit letter. The tuition deposit is non-refundable. Upon your matriculation to Chapman University School of Law, the $500 seat deposit will be applied to your first semester’s tuition. Learn More  |

Send in your transcripts. Arrange for your undergraduate institution to send us a copy of your official, final undergraduate transcript, which notes the baccalaureate degree received and the date it was awarded. The transcripts you submitted to LSAC for your LSDAS report are not considered official undergraduate transcripts for the American Bar Association. Learn More |

Make sure your financial aid file is complete. Tuition for the 2008-2009 school year is set at $35,980. You should have already received your award letter from the Office of Financial Aid. Learn More |

Check your Financial Aid and student account status. Fees are billed to your student account on a per semester basis (annually for the Student Bar Association fee). Your account is due when billed and paid by mail, by telephone (credit card payments) or at the Cashier’s Office in the Bhathal Student Services Building. Transcript fees and graduation fees must be paid at the Cashier’s Office at the time such services are requested. Learn More |

Take a Tour of your new campus. Admitted students are encouraged to visit the School of Law, tour Donald P. Kennedy Hall and our campus in Historic Old Towne Orange, meet with professors, and observe a first-year class. Learn More |

University campus resources. See the myriad of resources on the main campus you can take advantage of, from the All Faiths Chapel to vaccine shots, Childcare to the Ticket Office. Learn More |

Find a place to live! Chapman University's main campus in Orange has very limited graduate on-campus housing, but there are plenty of places to live and plenty of fellow law students seeking roommates. Learn More |

Check that your mailing address is up to date. Since all school-related materials will be sent to the mailing address on file in the Office of the Registrar, students are responsible for updating the Law Registrar of any address changes as soon as possible. Students may not use Chapman Law as a forwarding address. All personal mail will be returned to the sender. Learn More |

Read your first reading assignments and pick up handouts. First-year students are pre-registered for their classes based on their assigned tracks. This process is random by design and takes place prior to orientation. First reading assignments and required course materials will be posted in the Registrar’s Office and on the website. Once you have been registered, you can view your reading assignments and required course materials online. Additionally, these items may be picked up during Orientation. For the courses which have handouts that you must pay for, students will be able to pick these up in the Registrar’s Office and have the charges automatically billed to their Student Account. Please do not make any purchases as your track assignments and professors are subject to change up and until the end of orientation. |

Buy the right books. Chapman University School of Law has its own bookstore. You can preorder all of your books online then pick them up during orientation. Learn More |

Check your laptop. Make sure your laptop is up to speed if you want to type your finals instead of writing them (or, get a laptop through the school at a discount using the Student Mobile Computing Initiative). Learn More |

Get your parking permit. Register your vehicle with the Public Safety Office and pick up your parking permit, or file for a parking permit fee refund. All students have equal access to commuter lots and garages owned by the University. Learn More |

Become an ABA/LSD member. Applications for membership in the American Bar Association/Law Student Division(ABA/LSD) will be distributed to first-year students at Orientation. Learn More |

Register as a law student with the California Committee of Bar Examiners. Law students must register within ninety (90) days after commencing the study of law. "Registration As A Law Student" may be submitted online at www.calbar.org. If you intend to practice in another state, you should consult the rules and regulations of its Committee of Bar Examiners to determine if there is anything which might affect your eligibility for admission. It is the student's responsibility to establish if he or she is eligible to take the bar in a specific state. Learn More |
