Patricia Hart and Tanya Cao attended the Southern California Association of Law Libraries (SCALL) Institute on March 14-15, 2008. The two-day institute was held in Ventura for firm, academic, and government law librarians. The overall topic was corporate research today.

Awards


Cathy Elliott
earned her MLIS degree from the San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science, 2008.

 

Debbie Lipton received the Chancellor’s Distinguished Staff Award from Chapman University, 2009.

Lorin Geitner was the law school’s employee of the month for November, 2007. Lorin is a Reference Lawyer/Librarian and the Webmaster for both the law library and the law school. The honor was in recognition of Lorin’s superior work which he kept up while dealing with several months of deafness.

Publications

On October 22nd, Lorin Geitner's paper, "Westboro Baptist And The Limits Of Religious Speech", was listed on SSRN's Top Ten download list for REL Subject Matter eJournals and Religious Studies Research Network. The same article attained wider notice on November 18, when it was listed not only for REL Subject Matter eJournals and Religious Studies Research Network, but also Religion & Culture eJournal .

Tracie Hall wrote and took photos for the AALL Spectrum, July 2010, “Views From You” (photo); Harry and Diane Rinker Law Library Newsletter, March, April, November and December 2010 issues; SCALL Newsletter, Jan/Feb, Sept/Oct, and Nov/Dec 2010 issues.

Lorin Geitner recently published an article, “The “Next Friends” Suit: Mary Baker Eddy and the Church of Christian Science on Trial,” in Sacred History Magazine.

He also has two articles forthcoming about the Reinheitsgebot and the “Beer Summit” in Pub and Ale Magazine.

His article about the interface of law and religion will be appearing in the February issue of the Orange County Lawyer magazine.

Patricia Hart became the editor of the SCALL (Southern California Association of Law Libraries) Newsletter for 2009-2010.

Isa Lang recently published “Book Review: “China’s Legal Soul: The Modern Chinese Legal Identity in History Content,” in 101(4) Law Library Journal, 2009.

Isa continues to publish the supplements to the Index to Federal Tax Articles with Michael Lang.

Patricia Hart wrote the captions for photographs of California courthouse currently on display in the law school lobby.

Lorin Geitner was recently interviewed on “Worldview” on WBEZ, the Chicago public radio station, about an article he published, on the conception of end-times in Hinduism and Jainism.

Lorin has recently published two articles, Pub Fiction and The Science of Brewing, in the magazine Pub & Ale. He is also the U.S. Managing editor for Pub & Ale.

Patricia Hart published an article, New Tools for Reference: Law Librarians Look into the Future of Public Services, in AALL Spectrum, September/October 2007.

Isa Lang published a book review of Marsha Baum’s When Nature Strikes: Weather Disasters and the Law in the Law Library Journal. Isa has also published continuing supplements of Index to Federal Tax Articles, with Michael Lang, published by Thomson RIA, and the section on “Maine” in Pre-Statehood Legal Materials.

Tracie Hall had her photo of the San Gabriel Mountains, as seen from the Rinker Law Library, selected as the “View of the Month” in the April, 2007 issue of AALL Spectrum
