Federal Regulations require that students meet certain requirements to receive aid.  Please review the sections below to ensure your compliance.

Enrollment/Housing Status:  Your eligibility is based on expected enrollment for the program you are admitted and your housing status listed on your Free Applicaiton for Federal Aid (FAFSA).  If you will not be enrolled in the units or the housing status listed on your award letter, please contact the Law Financial Aid Office.  lawfinaid@chapman.edu.

Changes of Enrollment can affect your eligibility be sure to review these policies if you will be dropping below your expected enrollment.  A "Return of Funds" calculation must be completed on students who withdraw from any term.  Complete withdrawal may require a return of some of the fund already disbursed and may result in a balance due to the University.

Disbursements - funds are generally applied to a student's account by the end of the first week of classes for the current term provided all of the conditions for the award are met.  All awards are split in two equal payments, half paid in the fall term and half in the spring term.  No award will be paid prior to the disbursement scheduled for the term.  Once loan funds are posted, an email will be sent to your Chapman email.  If a disbursement results in a credit balance, students can request a refund from the Student Business Services Office.

Students are expected to maintain Satisfactory Progress in order to receive Federal Title IV aid.  Please review the satisfactory Progress guidelines for your program.

Please review the Student's Rights and Responsibilities information.

Merit Scholarships

Please review the JD Scholarship page for the terms and conditions for these scholarships.  LLM students should refer to their admit letter for the terms and conditions of the awarded scholarship.

Need Based Scholarships

Work Study

The Federal Work Study (FWS) Program provides eligible students an opportunity to earn money to help meet educational expenses.  A student does not automatically qualify for a job based upon FWS eligibility, but must be interviewed and selected.  Job opportunities are posted in the Career Services Office and the Student Employment Office.  Work Study employment earnings are paid directly to the student, twice a month.  First year students have typically not been considered for FWS until after successful completion of the first semester.  Students wishing to decline their work study may be eligible to borrow more from the federal loan program.
