Joe Knight is the Bette and Wylie Aitken Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law. He received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina and his J.D. from Columbia University. His private practice experience consists of working as a labor lawyer in New York and practicing with a bank holding company in Connecticut.

Prior to joining Chapman, he was the Dean and a Professor of Law at the University of Washington School of Law and was a law professor at the University of Iowa where he also served as the Vice Provost and Acting Associate Dean. An expert in commercial law, he authored three books on the subject and taught courses in banking, contracts and commercial transactions. He has also taught seminars on international banking and critical race theory.

He is an active member in several organizations, including the American Law Institute, the Law School Admissions Council, the American Law Deans Association, the Society of American Law Teachers, and both the American and National Bar Associations.
