Professor Litwiller received her undergraduate degrees in Broadcast Journalism and English Literature from the University of Southern California where she was graduated with honors in 1985. She subsequently earned her law degree at USC where she served as the Executive Notes Editor for the Computer/Tax Law Journal and was a founding member of the Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal. Professor Litwiller was inducted into the Order of the Coif after graduating in the top three percent of her law school class. Following law school, Professor Litwiller became associated with the law firm O'Melveny & Myers and was made partner in the Orange County based law firm of Berger, Khan, Shafton, Moss, Figler, Simon & Gladstone. During the course of Professor Litwiller's career in private practice, she specialized in handling large, complex litigation. Professor Litwiller joined the full-time faculty at Chapman University School of Law in 1999.
