Anna Kogan Adjunct Professor of Law Chapman University School of Law
Anna Kogan received her undergraduate degree in History from Stanford University, and was a Graduate Scholar at Oxford University. She graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law, served as Senior Editor of the Journal of Law and Public Policy, and was appointed Order of the Coif. She then clerked for the Honorable David A. Nelson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Professor Kogan previously practiced at Rutan & Tucker in the Employment Law Section. She focused on a wide range of business and employment issues, from management disputes, wrongful termination, sexual harassment and discrimination, trade secrets and unfair competition. Her transactional practice focused on business entity formation, executive compensation and separation agreements, corporate buy-outs, joint ventures, acquisition disputes and stock purchase agreements. Professor Kogan previously practiced with Kirkland and Ellis as a business litigator where she specialized in intellectual property, complex multi-jurisdictional commercial litigation, and entertainment litigation. She has represented the writer of The Cell in a groundbreaking copyright infringement and breach of confidentiality action against New Line Cinema, and she has successfully defended creative artists' copyrights and trademarks. Professor Kogan wrote the prevailing brief upholding individual actors' rights to privacy, personality, and publicity in the "Cheers" case, Paramount Pictures v. Wendt, 531 U.S. 811 (2000). In addition, Professor Kogan served as General Counsel for Blowfish LLC, managing all legal affairs for three restaurants and related business interests, including litigation, counseling, and business transactions. She is fluent in Russian, enjoys classical history, political philosophy, and contemporary British literature. Professor Kogan teaches Trademarks & Unfair Business Practices. |
