What Can the Career Services Office Do For You?

The Career Services Office is equipped with an excellent resource library of publications, including those published by the American Bar Association and NALP, the National Association for Law Placement; manuals; legal directories; computerized job and employer banks; employment practice guidelines; career development texts on a variety of legal and non-traditional practice areas; and other useful tools.

The office maintains subscriptions to legal newspapers, both state and national, and other employment periodicals. Seminars and workshops are presented on resume writing, interviewing techniques, networking, and other job search strategies. There is a library of various video and audio tapes available for student use as well as the capability to videotape and later critique mock interviews. Speaker forums and panel discussions explore different types of legal practice.

Both the Law Library and the Computer Lab have student access to legal employment databases, such as Martindale-Hubbell and NALP. The Career Services Office compiles and constantly updates listings of internet employment sites.

Several recruiting programs are available, including on-campus interviewing and off-campus resume forwarding. The building is equipped with significant floor space to accommodate the need for many interview rooms for employer use. These programs offer students and employers a time efficient and cost-effective means of interviewing in a convenient location during a concentrated period of time.

Additionally, the School of Law is committed to hosting and participating in regional as well as national job fairs designed to centralize and streamline the interviewing process. The Career Services Office also hosts many influential attorneys at speaker forums and through panel discussions which explore different types of legal practice.

To further develop opportunities for students and alumni, the Career Services Office enhances its visibility with the Southern California legal community through a series of outreach activities, including visitations to law firms, mailings, development of corporate and governmental contacts.

  • One-on-one Career Counseling

    We have an open door policy and welcome all law students to meet with their career counselor throughout their entire legal education. Contact Us.
  • Resume and Cover Letter Review

    Students have the ability to drop off their resumes and cover letters anytime for the staff to review and make suggestions. Simply place your documents in our “Resume In Box” in the office.
  • Legal Recruiter’s Fair

    The Career Services Office hosts a Legal Recruiters Fair in the Spring on the law school campus. Students have the opportunity to drop off their resumes and meet legal recruiters that could possibly assist them with landing a great job.
  • Mentor Program

    Chapman law students are matched with a current practicing attorney in the area of law that interests that particular law student. Students have the opportunity to shadow their Mentor and seek guidance, and is an excellent opportunity for students to begin developing their own professional networks. Learn More.
  • E-Mentor Program

    Practicing attorneys from around the country grant permission for current Chapman law students to contact them via email with questions about that attorney's specific practice area and other career related tips.   • Mock Interview Program

    Provides law students with the opportunity to hone their interview skills with actual practicing attorneys, partners, and managers and receive invaluable feedback. This program is offered to law students in the Spring. The Career Services Office also offers mock interviews throughout the year. Students can sign up with a career counselor and go through a mock interview, receiving more interview practice and tips.
  • Handbooks and Guides

    These are available on Blackboard and filled with roadmaps to career opportunities in specific areas of law, interviewing tips, sample resumes, cover letter information, and independent job searches.
  • Speed Networking

    Designed to give first year law students the ability to network with second year and third year law students. First year law students will gain insight about particular employers that second and third years have already worked for giving the first year class an added edge in the job searching process.
