Professor Donald J. Kochan delivered the “Supreme Court Review” to the Defense Research Institute’s Annual National Conference on Civil Rights and Government Tort Liability to an audience of nearly 300 persons in San Diego.
Professor Kochan moderated the panel on "Litigating Human Rights and Labor Standards in Domestic and Foreign Forums" at the Chapman University School of Law’s Center for Global Trade and Development Inaugural Symposium, "Labor Rights, Human Rights and Democracy in Distress". His associated article, “No Longer Little Known But Now a Door Ajar: An Overview of the Evolving and Dangerous Role of the Alien Tort Statute in Human Rights and International Law Jurisprudence” will be published in the forthcoming Volume 8 of the Chapman Law Review.
Professor Kochan spoke on “The Jurisprudence of Justice Antonin Scalia,” at the Southeastern Association of Law Schools Annual Conference in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Professor Kochan spoke at the Fordham University’s Conference on "Entrepreneurship and Human Rights," August 1, 2005 and delivered his paper on “Litigation and Human Rights: Universal Jurisdiction, Liability Risks, and the Effects on Investment and Entrepreneurship in Developing and Troubled Nations.” Professor Kurt Eggert has been selected once again to be on the Awards Committee for the AALS Section on Clinical Legal Education. This is his second year on this committee. Professor Eggert says the resumes and supporting documents that they get for the two awards are inspiring and give him ideas on how to improve the clinical program at Chapman. Professor Kurt Eggert was appointed to the Federal Reserve Board's Consumer Advisory Council, a committee that meets three times a year at the Fed in D.C. to advise the Fed about consumer issues in the banking industry.
