It is my pleasure to invite you to consider applying for entrance into the Chapman University Honors Program, which requires a separate application process. Applications received prior to April 15 will be reviewed by May 1. The entrance process continues after that date, however, until the program is full. The Honors Program is designed for academically talented and intellectually curious students who want to pursue exacting studies in a wide range of enduring intellectual concerns that cross disciplines and cultures. The program therefore combines a flexible, interdisciplinary curriculum with small discussion-centered classes. The curriculum consists of Core courses in four main areas: Arts and Letters; Mathematics, Science and Technology; Religious and Philosophical Studies; Social and Historical Studies. These courses are designed to foster mutually critical exchanges between the classics of human cultures and the contemporary world. These courses may satisfy some major, minor, and general education requirements. Honors students complete eight Honors courses, with a minimum of one course in each of the four Core areas, including the Honors Capstone. In addition, incoming and transfer students must take the 1-credit Honors forum their first year at Chapman. Honors students also participate in the intellectual community of the program. The purpose of the Honors Program is to encourage continued intellectual development, nurture a lifelong love of learning, and prepare each student for a personally fulfilling and socially responsible life during their college years at Chapman and beyond. Space in the program is limited and best serves students who approach their education in a mature and responsible manner. If the Honors Program appeals to you, I encourage you to complete our online application. Should you have any questions, please contact us at (714) 744-7646 or e-mail us at honors@chapman.edu. Respectfully,
Carmichael C. Peters, Ph.D. |
