Western Regional Honors Council Conference
University of Montana - Missoula, Montana
April 22-25, 2004

It was a long flight, but six Honors students, Dr. Virginia Carson, and Sue Johnson arrived in Missoula - and were pleasantly surpised.  The town and university are beautiful, the people very outdoorsy.  Presentations went well, with students fielding a variety of tough questions.  Topics and presenters:

  • Living, Learning, Remembering, and Having Bad Taste:  Kim Takagi
  • The Air We Breathe:  Nathan Robbins & Mike Brown
  • Alien Agriculture:  Genetically Modified Foods and the Modern World:  Jenny Wiegert, David Fisher, & Audra Hansard.

The group attended many other presenations and were filled with good ideas.  There was also a fun side to the event.  The Chapman Students hookd up with three students from CSU Fullerton and enjoyed many things together:  hiking up to the "M" on a mountainside, attending a (by all reports, dull" Montana party at the apartment of some University of Montana students, going out to dinner in town, and attending a student Trivial Pursuit party.  Jenny and Kim attended a jazz concert; Dr. Carson and Sue went to a Pow-wow; and the boys played some poker (along with a very intense debate).
