Q: How do I apply to be in the Honors Program? A: The University Honors Program requires a short, but separate, application. The application can be completed online, or you can download a paper application and then mail it to: Honors Program, Chapman University, One University Drive, Orange, CA 92866.
Q: What is the deadline to apply? A: The application review process for fall usually begins at the end of February. Applications should be submitted by April 15. Applications are reviewed on an rolling basis, until the program is full.
Q: How many students are accepted into the Honors Program? A: The program accepts about 25 to 30 students per year and seeks a balance in the student composition, including majors. The program best serves students who approach their education in a mature and responsible manner. Once accepted, students are expected to be active participants in Honors activities.
Q. What are the requirements to get into the Honors Program? A. A successful candidate for the University Honors Program will exhibit a strong motivation for interdisciplinary studies and an enthusiastic commitment to learning. Applicants typically have a first-rate GPA and highly competitive SAT and ACT scores. Other criteria may include outstanding leadership and/or creative achievement, community involvement, and a range of interests and experiences.
Q: Do I have to be accepted into the Honors Program to take Honors classes? A: Yes, except on rare occasions. Students not in the Honors Program need prior approval from the program’s director because the core honors classes are designed for just Honors students.
Q: What honors classes count towards my G.E. requirements? A: The courses you will take to complete your minor in University Honors fulfill the Inter/Multidisciplinary GE requirement. Since the Honors minor requires a minimum of 18 credits, and the Inter/Multidisciplinary GE cluster only requires 12 units, you can apply six (of those 18) Honors credits toward other GE areas.

Q: What if I already have a minor? A: The Honors minor can be done in conjunction with other minors, as well as double majors. It all depends on how much effort you want to put forth.
Q: Can I apply after my freshman year? A: Yes. There is no requirement that you have to be in the program all four years. If you start later but plan to finish the requirements before graduation, you can apply. Honors core classes qualify for select G.E. credit. The five Honors core classes must be completed, even if your G.E. requirements have already been met.
Q: Do I have to take an Honors class every semester? A: No. This is an independent minor, which means you may take your classes early or spread them out over your four years here. It's really up to each student. Most student like to take at least one Honors course each semester. It is advisable to have the Honors core classes completed before the end of your junior year, since core classes are offered alternating semesters and sometimes alternating years.
Q: What if I want to study abroad? A: At this time, we do not offer any core Honors courses overseas. However, it is possible to get Honors credit for studying abroad.
