The "1939" Club's Leopold Page Memorial Righteous Rescuers Lecture Series
Dedicated to telling the stories of those who refused to be bystanders to evil and courageously chose to become rescuers of the persecuted, this lecture series was inaugurated in fall 2001. It honors the memory of Leopold Page, number 173 on Schindler’s List, a founding member and former president of The “1939” Club, whose steadfast determination assured that Oskar Schindler’s name and deeds would become known throughout the world.

“As co-chairman of a foundation devoted to honoring the memory of Varian Fry, who, along with his organization, saved some 2,000 endangered individuals from the clutches of the Gestapo in France, I have lectured at many universities around the world. While all these conferences and seminars had great merit, few equaled the intellectual and emotional impact of the Chapman University event in which I participated. Even more impressive was the active involvement of middle and high school students and the community at large.”
Justus Rosenberg Professor of the Humanities, Bard College Youngest member, Varian Fry rescue team
