Topics in the Holocaust:
Perpetrators, Witnesses, and Rescuers

This course focuses upon the choices made by individuals during the time of the Holocaust, choices that defined them as perpetrators, witnesses and rescuers. Those who were targeted by the Nazis often had few choices, yet these choices were ones that could mean the difference between survival and death. Some individuals sought to remain bystanders, but their silence and inaction defined them as accomplices to evil. Others chose to side with those in need, becoming rescuers. This course examines the ethics and religious beliefs that guided individuals’ choices during the time of the Holocaust and considers how the choices we make each day shape our identities and our communities.
