Germany and the Holocaust: From Antisemitism to Final Solution
The first Holocaust course taught at Chapman University, Germany and the Holocaust offers a broad overview of the history of the Holocaust and introduces students to the power of choice—as individuals and as a society. Taught each fall, the course examines the history of anti-Judaism and antisemitism; the historical, social, and cultural situation in Germany at the end of the Great War; the rise of National Socialism, and rescue and resistance within Germany and the occupied countries. Together, the class reflects on the choices that people faced during the years of the Holocaust and the choices before us today as we face new challenges from denial, neo-Nazi, and other hate groups in the United States and abroad.
