What is Direct Deposit?
| Direct Deposit is an electronic transfer of your Net Pay from your paycheck directly into your bank account. |

| All employees of Chapman University may apply for Direct Deposit. |
What is the benefit of having Direct Deposit?
The main benefits of Direct Deposit for our employees are it is free, reliable, convenient, and safe.
Free: The program is offered at no cost to the employee. Convenient: On payday you do not have to worry how you are going to be paid if you are on vacation, out sick, or on official business trips. You save time be eliminating a deposit trip to the bank. Safe: Direct Deposit eliminates pay delays brought upon my losing your payroll check, having it stolen, mail delays, or accidentally destroyed. Reliable: Direct Deposit is more accurate compared to when banks process your check deposit. |
When are funds from Direct Deposit available?
| Direct Deposit funds are usually available by 8:00 am on payday. |
How do I sign up for Direct Deposit?
- Complete an Automatic Paycheck Deposit Authorization form and attach a voided check as required (do not send a deposit slip). See our Forms Center webpage.
- Send the Direct Deposit Form to the Payroll Office.

How long does it take for Direct Deposit to become activated?
| After the Payroll Office has received the form, it generally becomes active immediately after Payroll has processed the request. |
How does Direct Deposit work?
| Chapman University electronically deposits your pay directly into your account on payday. You continue to receive a check stub that informs you of your Gross Pay, Taxes, Deductions, and Net Pay (amount deposited into your bank account). |
How many accounts can I have Direct Deposit sent to?
| Payroll now offers Direct Deposit service to two accounts per employee checking and/or savings. |
What do I do if I close an account that has Direct Deposit?
| Complete a new Automatic Paycheck Deposit Authorization form and choose the "Cancel Direct Deposit" option. See our Forms Center webpage. You must notify Payroll Office in writing that you wish to cancel your Direct Deposit. Payroll Office needs cancellation notification five business days prior to payday to cancel the direct deposit to the upcoming payday. Written notification may be faxed or sent via inter-campus mail. |
How do I change Direct Deposit to a different account?

To change your Direct Deposit to another account, you must submit a new Automatic Paycheck Deposit Authorization form. See our Forms Center webpage. Your current Direct Deposit request will remain in effect until the change of the new account information has processed.
If your account is closed, you must notify Payroll to cancel Direct Deposit service on the previous account. Failure of notifying Payroll of the closed account could cause a delay in accessing those funds. |
Can I have Direct Deposit on a Hand Check (Manual Check)?
| No. Direct Deposit is generated only on regular paydays. All Hand Checks are created manually and cannot be deposited electronically. |
