How do I find a job on campus?
Student Employee Service Office offers assistance in how to find and apply for on campus jobs open to students who have Federal Work Study or not. Student Employee Service Office is the equivalent human resource office for our student employees.

Is there a weekly limit that I can work per week?
Yes, the weekly limit that a Student employee may work is 19 hours.

Do I have to notify the Payroll Office of my new address if I move?
If you have a new mailing address, you must notify the Payroll Office or Student Employment Services Office via your Chapman email or in person. Payroll needs to be notified of your change of address to update the address on your checks and year-end tax forms. Notifying the Registrar or Business Office does not automatically update the address on your paycheck.

Do I have to pay Federal or State Income Tax Withholding?
Student employees are not exempt from the liability of federal or state income taxes or of such taxes from being withheld. Taxes withheld are based upon the gross income and W4 status claimed.

Why do I have FICA taxes withheld?
You will have FICA withheld during the school year if you are enrolled less than half-time status (6 units) in a semester or when wages earned during the summer break (June through August).

Why do I have FICA taexs withheld?
Student employees are exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) taxes of wages earned during the traditional school year (September through May) when enrolled above six units in a student employment position.

I'm from out-of-state, which state do I list as my 'permanent residence"?
For tax purposes, you must list "California" as your permanent residence. Wages earned in California are subject to State income tax reporting and withholding.

Can I work in two different departments simultaneously?
Yes, Student employees may work in more than one department. The 19 hour work per week limit applies to the total hours worked from both departments.

Are there any additional rules for Non-resident Alien (NRA) Students?
Yes, refer to the NRA FAQ for details.
