James Madison Graduate Fellowships

Description:

The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation offers awards to a select group of individuals desiring to become outstanding teachers of the American Constitution. Recipients, therefore, use the funding to pursue a master's degree in American history or political science, an MAT concentrating on American history or government, or an M.Ed. or M.A. in Education with a concentration in American history or American government. The purpose of this program is to improve teaching of the U.S. Constitution in secondary schools.

Service Requirement:  After earning this degree, recipients must teach American history, American government, or social studies to students in grades 7-12 for a minimum of one year for each full year of study under the fellowship.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have a bachelor's degree or the intent to obtain a bachelor's degree by August 31 of the year in which they apply. This award is available only to students who wish to pursue master's degrees in the specific areas listed above.

Award:

The award has a $24,000 maximum for tuition, fees, books, and room and board, pro-rated over the individual period of study. (Awards cannot exceed $12,000 per academic year and are generally less.)
