Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes

Description:

This program offers scholarships for intensive summer language institutes overseas in eleven critical need foreign languages. Currently, programs (ranging in length from seven to ten weeks) are available for study of Arabic, Bangla/Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu, Chinese, Korean, Persian, Russian, and Azerbaijani. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced programs are offered for most languages. University-level credit may be available.

Eligibility:

Eligible applicants include undergraduates, graduating seniors, recent graduates, M.A. students, and Ph.D. students in all disciplines, including business, engineering, science, the social sciences, and humanities. Undergraduates must have completed at least one year of coursework by program start date. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Award:

All program costs are covered, including travel between the student's home city, Washington, D.C., and the program location (which would be, depending on the chosen language, China, Egypt, Tunisia, Bangladesh, India, etc.); room and board; travel within the country; and all entrance fees for program activities.
