Post-baccalaureate Preparatory Program

This accelerated post-baccalaureate preparatory program is designed for students interested in completing pre-requisites (leveling courses) necessary to apply for a master's degree program in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at Chapman University or another institution.

Students admitted to CU's year-long post-baccalaureate cohort program will complete ten courses – two courses each eight-week term for five consecutive terms totaling 30 credits*. The two courses each term will meet every weekend during each 8 week term but the courses will alternate every other weekend. Friday evenings (5:00-9:30 p.m. with 1/2 –hour dinner break) and and Saturdays (8 a.m.-5 p.m. with 1-hour lunch break).

The following 8 week term schedule includes a one-week break between each term.

Admission Information

  • Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a field other than Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders;
  • Applicants must have 3.0 minimum GPA in the last 60 semester units or last 90 quarter units of a bachelor's degree;
  • Submit an online application to the cohort Post-Baccalaureate Preparatory Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders;
  • Submit a resume including documentation of experience in field (volunteer or paid), may be done through the online application;
  • Submit a 1500-word Statement of Intent describing your interest in preparing yourself to become a speech/language pathologist, in the online application;
  • Send in two strong letters of recommendation, including one from an academic source describing your professional and academic abilities;
  • Send in official transcripts from all accredited institutions attended; and,
  • In-person interview that will occur with selected prospective students after initial screening of application materials.

Students admitted to the program must receive a "B" grade or better in each course and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible to apply for graduate school at Chapman University. A Record of Completion will be awarded upon successful accomplishment of the required 30 units of coursework. Successful completion of this program with a Record of Completion does not guarantee admission into Chapman University's master's degree program in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

* Credits are professional development only, specific to post-baccalaureate preparatory program and do not carry academic degree credit.

The deadline for applications is March 30, 2012, applications and all supporting documents must be received by this date.


Financing Your Education

  • The fee for each 3-unit credit hour course is $1,200 ($400 per credit hour).
  • Federal financial aid is not available for post-baccalaureate students enrolled through Extended Education.
  • Private loans can be secured for this program; these non-certified loans must be executed directly between the student and the lender and do not go through the University. A  private loan available for post-baccalaureate study/continuing education is the Wells Fargo Education Connection Loan at:

  • Existing student loans may not be deferred while enrolled in a post-baccalaureate program through Extended Education. Please check with your lender to verify.
