This will take you through the application process for an undergraduate degree in Strings Performance and make sure you know how it works from start to finish.  Be sure to visit all four (4) sections below for pertinent application and audition information.

+ - Deadlines

All documents must be uploaded through The Common Application and the Creative Supplement by the given deadlines.  Late applications are reviewed on a space available basis.  Please refer to the application checklist for more information on specified Admission deadline(s).

AUDITION DEADLINES (in-person & audition upload):

  • FIRST YEAR Early Action
    • Audition In-Person Deadline: Saturday, November 12, 2016
    • Audition Upload Deadline: Saturday, November 19, 2016
  • FIRST YEAR Regular Admission
    • Audition In-Person Deadline: Saturday, February 18, 2017
    • Audition Upload Deadline: Saturday, February 25, 2017
  • TRANSFER Regular Admission
    • Audition In-Person Deadline: Saturday, March 4, 2017
    • Audition Upload Deadline: Saturday, March 11, 2017

* The Creative Supplement must be submitted online by 11:59pm PST on the appropriate deadline.

COMMON APPLICATION DEADLINES:

  • FIRST YEAR Early Action Date (non-binding): Tuesday, November 1, 2016
  • FIRST YEAR Regular Admission: Sunday, January 15, 2017
  • TRANSFER Regular Admission: Wednesday, February 15, 2017

+ - Common Application Requirements

The following items must be submitted to be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Music in Performance, Strings program.  Incomplete applications will not be considered for admission.

  • $70 non-refundable application fee or fee waiver request (First Year & Transfer)
  • Official test results (SAT or ACT - Writing is recommended) sent from the College Board or ACT (First Year & Transfer)*
  • Common App School Report form (First Year applicants only)
  • Official Transcript(s) from all attended institutions (First Year & Transfer)*
  • One Teacher Evaluation (First Year applicants only)
  • One Academic Evaluation (Transfer applicants only)
    • *Test scores are waived for Transfer applicants with 24+ completed semester units.  The final high school transcript is waived for Transfer applicants with 60+ completed semester units.
  • In your Common Application:
    • Indicate your intended major: Music Performance - Strings - BM
    • You will see the following message: "You've selected a major that requires a Music Department Creative Supplement, including an audition, in order to complete and review your application.  Please follow the link here to continue or start that process."
    • Click the radio button "I understand" to proceed.

+ - Additional Major Requirements via the Creative Supplement

All students applying to the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music (Audition In-Person and Audition Upload) must complete the Creative Supplement as part of the Common Application.

The following items must be submitted via the Creative Supplement to be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Music in Performance, Strings program:

  • AUDITION IN-PERSON
    • Audition on primary instrument - Prospective students must schedule an audition appointment on their primary instrument (strings) during the posted audition dates.  BM in Performance applicants should refer to the audition requirements prescribed for your primary instrument.
    • Letter of Recommendation - The letter should come from your most recent music instructor or a professional with whom you have worked. By using the reference tab, please invite this teacher or professional to submit a letter of recommendation for you. Your recommender will receive an email prompting him or her to upload their recommendation into the Creative Supplement.  This letter is confidential and you will not have access to view your recommender's submission.  Please remember the letter of recommendation uploaded in the Creative Supplement is specifically for the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music.  This is a separate recommendation from those required by the Office of Admission.
    • Interview - In addition to the above requirements, you may be asked for a personal interview (in-person or via phone) with the appropriate Area Director.  You will be contacted if an interview is required for admission.
  • AUDITION UPLOAD
    • Audition on primary instrument - BM in Performance applicants who choose to submit an uploaded audition video should refer to the audition requirements for their primary instrument (strings).
      • NOTE: Uploaded videos should include an introduction, a brief discussion of your performing experience, and answer the question, "Why do you want to attend Chapman?".
      • Before beginning your performance, please speak the title of your piece and the name of the composer.
    • Letter of Recommendation - The letter should come from your most recent music instructor or a professional with whom you have worked. By using the reference tab, please invite this teacher or professional to submit a letter of recommendation for you. NOTE: If you plan on attending an in-person audition, it is highly recommended that you submit your Common Application prior to your scheduled audition.  In order to be reviewed for admission, your Common Application and Creative Supplement must be submitted prior to the respective deadlines.

SCHEDULE AN IN-PERSON AUDITION:

  • To schedule an in-person audition appointment, please complete your Creative Supplement at go.chapman.edu/apply.  Applicants are encouraged to audition/interview in-person whenever possible.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

Please refer to the links below for a detailed listing of audition requirements, sorted by primary instrument. In-Person applicants must schedule an audition appointment on their primary instrument (strings) during the posted audition dates. Audition Upload applicants should also refer to the audition requirements for their primary instrument when preparing their video submission.

(*) Please indicate whether or not you will require an accompanist at your audition.
