Cleaning Up Large Emails
One of the main problem issues with emails is the retention of large, unnecessary emails in the inbox. Fortunately, Outlook provides a quick and simple way to find and delete large emails. Some of these large emails may still be pertinent to current business, therefore it is recommended that you choose and delete only the emails which attachments you have saved locally to your hard drive or which you no longer need. Generally emails over 500 KB contain attachment files that should be downloaded and then deleted.

STEP 1:
We will be using the Mailbox Cleanup Wizard to assist us in this step. In Outlook, select the "Tools" menu and "Mailbox Cleanup..." button to access the wizard. |
 |
|
STEP 2:
In the "Mailbox Cleanup" window, click the "Find..." button. This will search your entire mailbox for messages larger than 250KB. These messages are considered large and should be deleted if at all possible. |

|
STEP 3:
In the resulting search window, let Outlook find your messages that are over 250KB. Once Outlook is done searching you can sort the result set by size by clicking on the column header "Size" as circled in the picture. This will arrange your email by size. It is highly recommended that you delete any messages larger than 500KB if you no longer need them. Any messages in the result set that you no longer need should be deleted. Any messages with important attachments should be opened, the attachment saved to disk and then deleted. |

Now you have removed large email messages and attachments that you no longer need in your inbox. By deleting these emails you will significantly improve the performance of your email because Outlook will not have to consider each large email when you are reading your email.
