How to Backup Data to Your Z Drive

If you have already completed a previous backup to the Z Drive, please proceed to STEP 10.
1. Double-click on the My Computer icon located on the desktop.  
2. Double-click on the C Drive.  
3. Double-click on the Documents and Settings folder.  

4. Double-click on your user folder.

Note: The folder should be named after the user name you use to log into the computer.

 

5. Click once on the My Documents folder in order to highlight it.

Click on the Edit menu and select "Copy."

 

6. Click on the drop-down menu next to "Address."

Select the Z Drive.

 
7. Click on the Edit menu and select "Paste."  

8. Your computer will begin copying your data to the Z Drive.

A "Copying" window may open that will indicate the progress of the data copy. Please be aware that the process may take a few minutes to complete depending on how much data needs to be transferred.

 
9. Once the "Copying" folder has closed and/or a "My Documents" folder appears in the Z Drive window, the backup process is complete.  
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED A PREVIOUS BACKUP TO THE Z DRIVE:
10. Double-click on the My Computer icon located on the desktop.  
11. Double-click on the C Drive.  
12. Double-click on the Documents and Settings folder.  

13. Double-click on your user folder.

Note: The folder should be named after the user name you use to log into the computer.

 
 

14. Click once on the My Documents folder in order to highlight it.

Click on the Edit menu and select "Copy."

 
 

15. Click on the drop-down menu next to "Address."

Select the Z Drive.

 
 
16. Click on the Edit menu and select "Paste."  

17. A window called "Confirm Folder Replace" will open that will read, "This folder already contains a folder named 'My Documents'... Do you still want to move or copy the folder?"

Click on the Yes to All button.

 

18. Your computer will begin copying your data to the Z Drive.

A "Copying" window may open that will indicate the progress of the data copy. Please be aware that the process may take a few minutes to complete depending on how much data needs to be transferred.

 
 
19. Once the "Copying" folder has closed and/or a "My Documents" folder appears in the Z Drive window, the backup process is complete.
