Configuring FreePPP

Once you have installed freePPP, you will see a small "telephone' icon near the top right hand corner of your screen. 

Click and hold the mouse button down on the telephone icon, and the freePPP menu will drop down.

Select "Open FreePPP Setup..." from this menu.


You will see a "FreePPP Setup" dialog box like the one on the right:

Click on the "Accounts" tab.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


You will see a dialog box like the one on the right.

Click on the "Edit" button.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


You will see an "Account Dialog box" like the one on the right: 
Fill in the "Server name:" and  "Phone number" fields. The phone number for dorm students is "6511", the phone number for off-campus 14.4 users is 997-651, and the number for off-campus 56k users is 244-5000.

Fill in the "User name" and "Password:" fields with your own User ID and Password.  The User ID and password that you use to configure FreePPP are the same as  the  User ID and password that you use to retrieve email (i.e. your email account name and password).

When you are finished, click "OK".


Click on the "General" tab to return to the open "FreePPP Setup" screen. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


You will need to configure your TCP/IP settngs to use FreePPP. 
The way you do this will depend on whether you are using "Open Transport" with a newer Macintosh computers or "MacTCP" with an older Macintosh computer.

Click on the "Open TCP/IP" button to configure your TCP/IP setup.
