Connecting to the Residential Network

In order to protect our students from viruses and worms (brought to campus by other students) Chapman University has implemented a system to ensure that all student computers on our network have up to date security patches, anti-virus, and spyware defenses.

Starting Fall 2007, students are now required to validate and authenticate access to the university network from the residence halls. This means that in order to log-in; you will need to type your Chapman username and password.

You will not be able to access the network until you have “authenticated” (or told the network who you are). The process will begin by opening an Internet browser window and being redirected to Bradford Network Control Access registration page. Once you have typed your Chapman username and password you will then be prompted to download and install the client security agent.

For detailed instructions on downloading, installing and running the client, please click here.

After the process is complete, you will be logged into the network. This new security system will have a computer icon called Client Security Agent that will be located in your system tray (this is the area located next to the computer clock).

To protect the safety of our residential network, Chapman uses the Bradford Campus Manager system.  The Bradford Client Security Agent will verify that your computer meets the requirements listed above before permitting full access to the network.  If you try to connect to the Chapman network from the Residence Halls without the required security patches, anti-virus, and anti-spyware software, your computer will be placed in a remediation area and you will only have access to the sites necessary to download and install the necessary updates.

Why has Chapman implemented Bradford Campus Manager?
This security system will keep your computers, both laptop and desktop, much more secure. In the past the campus was hit by a major virus that resulted in a wide-spread network outage. This is a solution to help prevent such attacks, and is intended to deny “infected” computers access to the network. We hope this will result in a clean and consistent network at Chapman.
