A red chalice bearing a white Cross of St. Andrew is the official symbol of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  The chalice symbolizes the centrality of the Lord’s Supper in Disciples’ worship.  The St. Andrew’s Cross, national cross of Scotland, reflects the Scottish Presbyterian roots of the Disciples church.

Chapman's Spiritual Heritage

From its beginnings as a spiritual movement, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has practiced ecumenism (unity across denominational lines).  Reaching out in love to all Christians, the first Disciples refused to impose a creed or any other such "test of fellowship."

Early in the Twentieth Century, Disciples reached out to the entire Jewish-Christian tradition.  Indeed, Disciples were early members of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, one of the first organizations committed to interfaith dialogue.

More recently, that dialogue has expanded to include all religious traditions.  Thus, the Fish Interfaith Center is a marvelous manifestation of Chapman University’s rich spiritual heritage.
