Congratulations to the
2007 Distinguished Staff Award &
Staff Grant Recipients!

The Chancellor's Distinguished Staff Award

This award is given each year to an individual in the Academic Affairs unit who has exhibited extraordinary dedication and outstanding contributions to our University’s success.  The Staff Advisory Group received a number of nominations, which included:

  • Kathy Arballo, School of Education;
  • Jessica Cioffi, Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education;
  • Jesse Griggs, School of Law; and
  • Deanna Pittman, Office of the Chancellor

The 2007 recipient is Jessica Cioffi »

Jessica’s efforts have assisted in the growth of the University and contributed to the mentoring of our students. Her work encompasses a multitude of areas and “is seen as the ‘face’ and ‘voice’ of our program.”  Jessica was nominated by Dr. Marilyn Harran, Stern Chair in Holocaust Education and Director of the Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education, and her student assistant, Ashley Bloomfield, for her deep sense of commitment and teamwork, and her dedication to the University.  Congratulations, Jessica!

The Staff & Community Enhancement Grant Awards

The Staff & Community Enhancement Grant is given each year to encourage staff members to develop and submit new ideas that will enhance Chapman through specially proposed projects.  The Staff Advisory Group received several proposals in its first year and after much deliberation chose two projects.

« Come C What U Are Missing! (
$1,500)
Clarence Hollingsworth, Office of Admission

This project aims to create opportunities for outstanding achievers from diverse backgrounds to visit Chapman.  This grant will allow the Office of Admission to offer transportation to potential students in underserved communities free of change.  In addition to providing transportation, Admission will offer campus tours and information sessions to promote Chapman’s academic programs. Congratulations, Clarence and the Office of Admission!

CRLA Association Certification – Tutor Training ($500)
Dr. Lynn Mayer,
Center for Academic Success »

This project aims to bring recognition and make significant contributions to the University community by implementing a new tutor training program for peer tutors.  Chapman will be certified as an institution and each individual tutor by the College Reading & Learning Assistance (CRLA) certification program.  As an integral part of the Center for Academic Success, an improved tutor training program will promote more effective content, process, and writing tutors.  Congratulations, Lynn and the Center for Academic Success!
