+-Center for Advanced Study of International Development, Michigan State University

The Center for Advanced Study of International Development has outreach activities including thematic workshops for K-12 teachers on international development issues and the organization of in-services with school districts of Michigan. At the post-secondary level, the center provides support to community colleges in Michigan to internationalize their institutions. The center also is the secretariat for the local chapter of the Society for International Development and provides coordination and support for the annual observance of World Food Day.

+-Center for the Study of Global Change, University of Indiana

The primary objective of outreach for the Center for the Study of Global Change is to serve as a resource base on international issues to meet the needs of K-12 teachers, other educators, community and government officials, the media and the general public at local, state and national levels. Activities specifically geared toward K-12 teachers and students include the International Studies Summer Institutes, International Agricultural Education Summer Institute, International Studies for Indiana Schools (using interactive video to provide programs), Capitol Forum Indiana, Integrating International Issues with Civic Education and Global Speakers Service.

+-Institute for Global Studies, University of Minnesota

The Institute for Global Studies (IGS) sponsors a number of activities for K-12 teachers. There are one-week Teacher Summer Institutes that challenge teachers to combine experience in applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills to international issues with the knowledge and materials needed to engage their students. Also offered are professional development opportunities that encourage educators to explore current issues in international studies through conferences, seminars, short courses and faculty presentations. IGS hosts a free curricular and film lending library for educators. A listserv keeps the education community informed about upcoming events, training and conferences, education and curriculum resources and new projects in the field of global studies and human rights education.

+-Office of Resources for International and Area Studies (ORIAS)

ORIAS is a joint program of the area studies centers at the University of California, Berkeley, that provides scholarly international studies resources and professional development for K-12 teachers. ORIAS offers Web-based resources and curriculum material, free workshops, tuition scholarships for professional development, a lending library for educators and a visiting scholar program for teachers doing independent research.

+-Outreach World

Outreach World is a comprehensive one-stop resource for teaching international and area studies and foreign languages in the pre-collegiate classroom. Funded by Title VI, it is based at UCLA and collaborates with outreach specialists from several Title VI Centers. Outreach World is dedicated to providing access to instructional units, curricular aids and resource catalogs developed at more than 100 Title VI Centers. Offerings will include teaching units geared toward less commonly taught languages, resources for teacher training and development, links to teaching materials created by museums and other organizations and a calendar of events and professional development opportunities for teachers.
