Chapman University's Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) boasts a 30-year history of producing hundreds of graduates who are successfully employed locally and nationally at the professional, collegiate, and secondary school levels as athletic trainers and educators. Many of our graduates have also continued their education in complementary professions.

Combining comprehensive academic coursework with clinical hands-on experiences, our program prepares students for careers and/or graduate studies in a variety of fields, including:

  • Athletic training
  • Physical or occupational therapy
  • Physician assistant or medical school
  • Nursing/Nurse practitioner
  • Healthcare and sports/fitness administration

Chapman's ATEP employs a competency-based, medical education model and is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Germany 2008

Dr. Ky Kugler, program director, took nine athletic training majors on a three-week travel course to Germany and Switzerland this past summer. Students studied with the German Academy of Applied Sports Medicine in Regensburg, Germany and worked with the FC Bayern Soccer/Futbol Club and the Holland Speed Skaters. They also completed clinical education rotations in Munich, Germany, and in St. Moritz, Switzerland featuring topics such as ultrasound diagnostic evaluations, high altitude training, mountain rescue, adolescent obesity and Kinesiotaping. It wasn't all work– the class took time for cultural exploration, including visits to the 1972 Munich Olympic venues, St. Moritz Winter Olympic and World Championship venues, Dachau Concentration Camp, Nurnberg Rally Grounds and Trials, Neuschwanstein Castle, Danube River, and Walhalla Memorial.
