Bachelor of Arts
Bachelor of Science
The Kinesiology Department provides distinctive learning
in the art and science of human movement. The comprehensive curriculum
is based on philosophical foundations, experiential learning, and
scientific principles that in combination prepare students for careers
and/or graduate programs in education, athletic training and allied
health care professions such as physical therapy, physician's assistant,
medicine, occupational therapy,
and related fields. The department offers the bachelor of arts degree
with two emphases: Athletic Training and Physical Education. The
department offers the bachelor of science degree with two emphases:
Biokinesiology and Exercise Physiology. Graduation with departmental
honors will be considered if a student has maintained a cumulative
GPA of 3.5 and has completed an independent project which culminates
in a presentation to faculty and peers. The independent project
must receive prior approval by the kinesiology faculty as being
of honor's quality. All students within the Department of Kinesiology
must complete a common core of courses. To fulfill these core
requirements, a grade of at least a C must be earned and the course
must be completed at Chapman University.

Bachelor of Arts Emphasis in Athletic Training
Effective Fall 2001, this emphasis is no longer available.
It is replaced by a bachelor of arts in Athletic Training. The requirements
remain as listed below. This emphasis prepares students for careers
as athletic trainers at all levels of public, private and/ or professional
sports programs. The Athletic Training curriculum is designed so
that upon its completion a student has met the course work, competencies,
and clinical hours required to sit for the national certification
examination administered by the National Athletic Trainers Association
Board of Certification. Students with an emphasis in Athletic Training
are required to maintain current CPR and standard First Aid certifications.
Students are required to
attend monthly workshops and seminars covering topics relevant to
Athletic Training. Students are required to attend monthly student
athletic training meetings. Refer to the ATEP Handbook for all technical
