At the WIRA championships in Sacramento in in 2006, Chapman crew experienced unprecedented success, capturing three medals (two for the women, one for the men) - the first three medals in school history at a championship event. Wilkins enters his eighth year at the helm of Chapman’s crew program which calls the beautiful new Gray Rowing Center its home, overlooking scenic Newport harbor. He has built a young program that began in 1996 and has overseen the team’s transition to varsity status in 2001.

Wilkins earned a bachelor’s degree in English from George Washington University in Washington D.C. He has been coaching collegiate rowing since 1981 and has coached four Olympians, including Linda Miller, a member of the 1999 world championships bronze medal-winning team. He came to Chapman in 1999 following brief coaching stints at Orange Coast College (1997-98) and Long Beach State (1996-97). He moved west to California in 1996 after coaching at George Washington for 15 years from 1981-96. Paul also serves as Southwest Regional Field Service Coordinator for USRowing. He presents clinics for USRowing Coaching Education program periodically and is the regatta director for the USRowing Regional Championships in the Southwest Region.

He and his wife, Dr. Jennifer Keene, currently reside in Long Beach with their son, Caleb.
