FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women’s water polo team played its final two games – ever – at Orange High School over the weekend, losing to both Concordia and Cal State East Bay. The Panthers’ first loss came Saturday morning in an 11-4 loss to Concordia University, followed by a 10-4 defeat to Division III top-10 rival, Cal State East Bay. The loss to No. 5-ranked East Bay was the most painful as a win would have secured a berth in the Collegiate III playoffs next month. Chapman (9-16) fell behind 5-1 in the first half and never recovered. The Panthers, ranked No. 7 in Division III, will have to hope for an at-large selection on Monday to earn their second-ever playoff bid. Junior Jennifer Manship scored a pair of goals in each game and totaled two assists and eight steals this weekend, while Chapman goalie, Celia Huling, made 12 blocks and five steals in the two games. The Panthers will take one final swim in the Orange High pool on Saturday during their annual alumni game. In the fall, Chapman will open its new on-campus Allred Family Aquatics Center. Orange High School’s pool has been Chapman’s home for aquatics since 1972.
