MANSHIP SETS NEW SCORING MARK IN LOSS TO FULLERTON CLUB

FULLERTON, Calif. – Utility player Jennifer Manship has been a one-woman wrecking crew offensively this season and made it official on Tuesday night when she set a new scoring standard for Chapman women’s water polo. The sophomore scored five of the Panthers’ seven goals in a 12-7 loss to Cal State Fullerton’s club team, breaking the single-season school record for goals.

She has 80 goals in 21 games, breaking Chapman’s previous school record of 75 set by Kristin Carter in 2005. As of last week, Manship ranked No. 5 in the nation (all divisions) in goal scoring.

For a team that graduated its top three goal scorers which accounted for over 150 goals last year, Manship has stepped up in a big way for the Panthers this season. Almost half – 80 of the team’s 162 goals this season – belong to her.

The loss was Chapman’s second straight and the Panthers have now lost eight of their last 10 games. However, the team slump has not stopped Manship in the slightest. The utility player has averaged 3.7 goals per game in that stretch and scored five or more in a game four times.

Chapman (7-14) travels to the Loyola Marymount Tournament this weekend before playing its home finale against No. 5-ranked Cal State East Bay on Sunday, April 15. The Panthers are currently tied for No. 9 in Division III.
