ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University freshman tennis player Liz Lewis has been selected to participate in the NCAA Division III national championships in St. Peter, Minn. hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. By ranking in the top four singles players in the West Region this season, Lewis earned the invitation to the singles championship tournament which will take place from May 16-18. By earning the selection to the national tournament, Lewis also becomes the first Chapman women’s player since Deborah Denio in 1997 to earn All-America honors. The freshman is one of 32 players selected to the tournament. Pairings have not yet been determined. Lewis put up impressive numbers in 2008 with an overall record of 20-5 in singles play, including a 4-2 mark in tournaments. The rookie climbed to the semifinals at the West Region championships last fall and most recently reached the Round of 16 at the Ojai Valley Tournament in April. Lewis was also a straight sets winner in Chapman’s first round loss in the NCAA Division III First Round playoffs last weekend.
